My degree in Dental Therapy and Hygiene from the Peninsula Dental School in Plymouth qualifies me to provide a range of dental treatments targeting some of the most common dental problems including dental decay and periodontitis (gum disease). As a dental therapist, I am able to carry out adult restorations, teeth whitening, the treatment of gum disease, a full scope of paediatric dentistry as well as routine screening for common dental pathology such as oral cancer. I love the educational element of my role. Not only do I always aim to explain the course of dental disease in easy-to-grasp terms but also try to encourage my patients to adopt the most effective and sustainable oral hygiene habits. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the oral hygiene of my patients improve which in turn enhances their confidence and long-term oral and systemic health (and tremendously increases my job satisfaction).I have a curious and slightly ‘geeky’ mind and have a keen interest in all aspects of the function of the human body. As a dental professional, we must always base our clinical decisions on evidence which means our time dedicated to continuous professional development is imperative, which is where it comes in handy to be a bit ‘geeky’ !I On the days when I am not working, I enjoy gym workouts, baking, painting with acrylics and travel.
